Pickens County Museum of Art & History ---“Story, Song, and Image: A Merging of Musical Heritage and Narrative Painting” opens Saturday at the Pickens County Museum. Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition with prints by Marty Epp-Carter and ceramic sculpture by Sam Davis

Epp-Carter and Davis both use various media to broach contemporary questions about the denotation and value of memory, experience and identity. Epp-Carter seeks to recontextualize the intersection of contemporary consumerism and the natural environment. Davis aims to create identity through appropriation, drawing on the object’s capacity to re-present experience.

FIRST FRIDAYS monthly gallery tour has launched a new logo and identity. The identity package and graphic design is by Greenville artists and designer Marco Suarez. This popular tour offers extended gallery hours on the first Friday of every month, all year long.

Senior Action is calling on age 55+ artists & crafters interested in placing their work on consignment in Senior Action's Log Cabin HandCrafted Gifts store in downtown Greenville. Aside from the Senior Action membership fee ($24/year that entitles members to participation in all of Senior Action's classes, activities, and trips) there are no fees, and the 25% consignment is due only upon sale, so the artist/crafter has no out of pocket expense to participate. Inviting new artists and crafters -- the store used to be an arts cooperative, and is just now being converted to a consignment store. Upstate Visual Arts Held its FIRST "West Greenville Arts Festival" ---Artists, food vendors and area businesses are participating. Upstate Visual Arts invited artists from Greenville, as well as across the state of South Carolina and beyond. Presented by Upstate Visual Arts, and in partnership with the Pendleton Street Arts District, the West Greenville Arts Festival is an exciting new ANNUAL fall event devoted to the visual arts. The festival features the work of outstanding artists in a full range of 2D and 3D media. This was the first event of its kind in the newly renovated, historic Pendleton Street Arts District, in Greenville, South Carolina.

JASPER JOHNS. The Greenville County Museum of Art inaugurates a series of programs relating to Jasper Johns: Look Homeward, an exhibition featuring the museum’s collection and proposed acquisitions. The Museum is offering free guided tours of Jasper Johns: Look Homeward on Sundays and Tuesdays at 2:00pm. Friend (basic) membership dues are $50 annually and includes benefits for two people. However, at all other times, admission to the Museum is absolutely free. Located at the corner of Highway 178 at 307 Johnson Street in Pickens SC, the Pickens County Museum is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Admission is free but donations are welcomed. In addition to exhibitions, Third Thursday Evening Forums and Saturday Sessions are a part of the Pickens County Museum’s on-going effort to present educational programming for the community. A different program featuring local artists, story tellers, authors and craftsmen will be scheduled the third Thursday evening of each month as well as on occasional Saturdays.

Trillium Arts Center has opened an expansive new arts centre located at 319 S. Main Street, Travelers Rest, about 9 miles from downtown Greenville. The new arts centre will offer classes for adults and children in the visual arts, dance, music, and creative writing, as well as a book discussion group for adults. Trillium Arts also offers services to area artists as well as produces a number of community art and poetry events for the public.
