Remembering Roy, The Peanut Man

This is Roy, also known as The Peanut Man. Roy's peanut stand was in his yard on highway 25. Around 1998, Roy's peanut business closed down and the house was demolished. We don't know what happened to Roy -- if you know anything, please send an email and let us know. We'll always miss Roy and his peanuts. Roasted or boiled, we were spoiled.

It was on the right, so close to the highway there wasn't room for more than three or four cars at a time, and there were always cars competing for space. Who knows how many people over the years were lured from the road, especially in the fall when leaves were turning color and traffic was at its peak. Stopping for a bag of boiled peanuts became a habit for lots of people going up and down the mountain all times of the year.

If you drove highway 25 from Greenville to Asheville, North Carolina, you most likely saw The Peanut Man's peanut stand on the roadside. The peanuts were cooked properly with experience, the signage itself was folk art and the welcome mat was well worn.
