Welcome to Reedy River Historic Park

The Reedy River tumbles into steep falls at the Liberty Bridge, then meanders through rocky shallows with South Main Street's shops on one side and the Governor's School for the Arts & Humanities on the other.

Named for the "reeds" that grew along its banks, the Reedy River flows from Travelers Rest, SC, southward for almost sixty miles toward Conestee, SC, before joining the Saluda River at Lake Greenwood.

Brief Park History: The Garden Club won the $500 second prize in Better Homes & Gardens "More Beautiful America" contest in 1932. The money was used to create one of Greenville's most attractive tourist sights in the 1930s. The arboretum was neglected during World War II, and fell into decay but it's back in a big way today! There are two amphitheaters in the park to host the Upstate Shakespeare Festival and other entertainment during special events such as Artisphere. Weddings, photography sessions and picnics are always going on in the park and at the River Lodge shelter. The gardens themselves are designed for three seasons of blooming flowers, making this a very busy park in downtown Greenville, right on Main Street.

You're welcome to email your questions or comments about the park and your experience.
