The typical snow "storm" As for winter weather, Greenville's biggest threat is ice and freezing rain, not big snows. We get a mix of snow and sleet. Much of the time, sleet is all we get. Our roads can get deceptively slick with icy slush from melting and sleet accumulation. Trees drop ice covered limbs, leaving communities without power. This closes our schools, and many businesses. Northerners think this is funny. This can happen a few of times over the winter here. Some winters we don't get this much, or we get none at all. Our winter really doesn't kick in good until around mid January. January, February and March, are our "worse" months. If you're new to these icy parts, when it "snows" here, park your car under the stars, far from under the nearest big tree. Greenville will recall the huge ice storm of December 2005 for generations to come. If you missed it -- you're the lucky one. --gs |
